CRASH
There had been mass critics arguing about results of the Best Movie for the latest Oscar.
Many people praised highly on Lee Ann's Broke Back Mountain and was crashed for not awarded best movie in Oscar.  I watched Broke Back Mountain a few months ago and appreciated the romantic love story with GAY lovers committing affairs.  The outdoor sceneries were stunning, overwhelming and breath-taking.  After all, its an enjoyable movie!

Remember the movie Traffic, which won lots of awards in one year's Oscar previously?
Traffic was about drug trafficking, with three major story lines woven amongst each other.
If you think the 3-hour Traffic was a great movie, which I did, I am sure you would highly appreciated Crash.  As compared to Traffic, Crash is N times more sophisticated and complex that discussed deeply about Racism.  The movie was seriously flooded with racist in all magnitudes and every angle in every dimension, just like a broken sewage.  Its totally out of control!  My Gosh!

PLOT SUMMARY: (Italics in brown written by MPark,
Sarasota, Florida)
For two days in Los Angeles, a racially and economically diverse group of people pursue lives that collide with one another in unexpected ways.  These interactions are always interesting, and sometimes quite unsettling. The film explores and challenges your ability to judge books by their covers.

L.A.has always been my dream land for retirement with the sea, sun, and mixed culture.  I used to have a perception that The West appeared more liberal and well accepting all racial colors as compared to the East.  Luckily, my stay in L.A. did not encounter racial situations mentioned in the movie.  People of all colors are friendly, causal and respect one another.  However, the movie is a Crash to me revealing the dark side of the Californian dream, misunderstandings and bias amongst Whites, Blacks, and other colors of human race and chained tragedies caused.  Although fictional, many happenings are plausible.  The movie put me into deep thoughts of racism in modern society and when conflicts amongst different race occur, the problem extrapoliates!

Throughout this movie, there's no absolute hero or villain.  Everybody is angry.  People appearing decent had a dark side while those appeared evil, in fact, possess  a good heart, all subject to situations.  Its butterfly effects that chain one another with mixed feelings. I couldn't help my tears falling off in several scenes.

The whole movie was exciting, disturbing and controversial...with lots of chaos, crisis, accidents, drama that made the whole movie so breathe taking.  No matter how bad a guy could have been, there is always love to someone in some way.

Black people is labelled trouble maker and Pre-criminal.  They were despised and lived a life unfairly.  The problem being many black people do not work up to his/her own integrity thus creating such misconception and being Black does had a harder life to live in the land of freedom
.

Here are some of the most impressive and contradicting scenes which deeply hit me:

Sexual Molest by White Officer
Christine was performing a blow job for her hubby Director Cameron (Terrence Howard)  while he's driving home and these two black couples got caught by Officer Ryan(Matt Dylan) and Officer Hanson (Rhyan Philippe).  Officer Ryan molested Christine with threat of pressing charges against the two for sex in public.  Cameron witnessed the molest in silent and apologized to the Officer for a leeway ... Christine was deeply insulted by the entire situation and got angry at her husband for not protecting her.

While the couples were at cold feet against one another, Christine got into an accident with a crash and her car toppled.  She was trapped in the car while the other car's gasoline was flowing slowly to her car...an explosion was more than likely to happen.  Ironically, Officer Ryan, the police who molested her came to rescue her.  Finally, he saved her life.  She was speechless about her feelings towards this diligent Officer who was a monster yesterday.

Black men's integrity
On the contrary, Cameron lost his integrity for not being man enough to confront with the Officer who molested his wife.  The next day, a gangster was trying to rob his car and police interferred.  Cameron was all wild to challenge the Police's instruction.  Luckily, Officer Hanson was on duty, recognized him and helped him out of the situation.  Cameron drove off and dropped the gangster off the road with hurt feelings "You embarrassed me, you embarrassed yourself" for Black not behaving well resulting in such discrimination.  After such happening, the gangster finally did a good thing...instead of selling the illegal Thai/Cambodians, he released them in
China Townand felt good about it.

Disgust other's act...you know who you're? You've no idea! ... You're a MONSTER!
Officer Hanson was disgusted by his partner Officer Ryan the Racist Prick and reported to Lieutenant  Dixon (Keith David) requesting for changing partner.  The tension raised as whether to report Officer Ryan, whom had 17 years experience and no bad record abusing his power for wrongful discimination, or just claiming oneself with an embarrass habit of not used to partner with others...Surprisingly,  Lieutenant  Dixon, a black police oficer, did not provoke him to report in order for both of them to survive.  Officer Ryan was mocked for being a wierdo.

Later, Officer Hanson hang out with Peter, a black buddy.  During a course of argument, Officer Hanson mistakenly killed Peter thinking that Peter had a gun in his pocket!  Worse of all, Office Hanson hit and run!

Locksmith and his 5 yr old daughter who were scared of bullets and gun shots
The Hispanik locksmith was a decent guy who worked diligently and his integrity was challenged due to his color.  At a store, he helped to replace a door lock requested by the old Persian Store Ownerbut informed him that the problem was the door, not the lock.  But the Store Owner, with poor English and stubborn character, did not accept and blamed him a cheater.  The locksmith was extremely turned off by forgoing his hourly charge and paying the Store's lock, he stormed out of the Sotre.  The next day, the store was robbed and insurance not covered because the store owner did not perform diligent procedure by changing the door instead.  The store owner was greatly impacted by the incident and tried to get back all the money from the locksmith, whom the store owner felt that's all Locksmith's fault.  He was pointing a gun to threaten him for money and at the moment he shot, the locksmith's dearest and only daughter, Lara, came out of the house, embraced and 'protected' the father...everyone was astonished, husband and wife falling apart crying, the old store owner was shocked as well (He had a daughter as well).  Luckily, somehow the shot did not hurt the girl and the family fled home immediately.
The old store owner went home and was pacified...he saw an angel, the girl.  The wrong act of shooting did not really turn into bloodshed but case closed.  In fact, the truth was the Persian Store owner's daughter, Dorri, chose empty bullets that saved his sin.  Both daughters were Angels.  I was so overwhelmed when watching the girl got shot!
(Credit to 木村太太 confirming the bullet issue, thx!)

The Black detective mixed with confusion and contradiction
Detective Graham (Don Cheadle) was core of the whole story.  His role contained the most mixed feelings.  He's proud to hook up with a white female colleague for sex.  He's not sure if calling her a Mexican degraded her from calling her a White woman...in fact, both did not turn her off but his disgrace when speaking to his mom on the phone without respect!

Graham's trying very hard to work his career ladder all the way up to the top.  Unfortunately, his background with a felony brother Peter and drugged mother affected his promotion.  (He also faced pressures from Seniors not to testify verdicts against white officers due to these accusations).  That explained why he moved out and tried to detach from his family as well as avoiding from helping his mother to bring Peter home.  Although Graham tried to make up for neglecting his family, he cleaned up his mother's frig and bought home groceries but his mom thought it's Peter who came home and did it.  When Peter found dead, the gang mistakenly shot by Officer Hanson, Graham's mother blamed Graham for killing his own brother because he had not been taking care of him.  Graham was extremely lost and upset about the whole consequence.

Victim? or Villain?
The Korean who was run over by two black gangsters, Anthony and Peter, was in fact smuggling illegal Cambodians or Thai to
U.S.A.  Since the van was taken away, he knew he'll be in trouble and asked his wife to cash all money out... they're ready to flee.  He appeared to be the victim and turned out to be a villian!
P.S. Thanks to 木村太太 for correcting the error!

From the Whites, the motive of Politicians
Rick Cabot (Brandon Fraser), the State Attorney was a polite and compromising elite while wife, Jean was angry and distrusted the black, complaining about her Espanik maid all the time.  In fact, Rick Cabot's concern was about gaining Black votes for his power and position in the State while Jean had no real friend.  Long until Jean  had an accident slipping over the stairs and broke her leg, did she realize her 10 year buddy Carol would not come to help her because she's busy massaging.  Instead, her Espanik maid's care who tolerated her harsh request and complaints was there to offer a help.

六月飛霜...SNOWING IN L.A.
All of a sudden, it snowed in L.A., that reminded me of the famous Chinese saying "六月飛霜"-symbolizing its all an unfair society that we're living in.

LOVE conquers all!
After all these drama, at the end of the day, its Love that made men conscious, its love that settles all!
The movie reminded us all to love people you love and respect those around you.

There are many other relationships and scenes not discussed but were very interesting as well.  More for you to discover!

Here are some Memorable Quotes from the movie worth sharing:

Final comment:
 Score: 90/100

CRASH is a terrific movie with very complex twists and turns, 3 dimensional irony and contradictions, plus loads of surprises.  The casting was marvellous!!! The realistic and compelling movie brought in in-depth discussion on psychological and physical Crashes which were far beyond an ordinary crime drama.  Most characters interwoven with others gently but Crash spurred everywhere making things far more and more complicated.  In conclusion, CRASH truly deserves to out beat
Broke Back Mountain

I think Don Cheadle was doing a great job!  Saw him since Traffic.  In fact, he's the producer of Crash and worked out a more sophisticated plot.

I guess I am not very romantic, thus Crash is more likely my cup of tea.  Like me, if you are a fan of CSI, 24 and other investigated series, Crash has the spice with a more refreshing taste which I strongly recommend you not to miss it!  Promise you that it a SERIOUS movie!   Enjoy
